Here's a big thank you to Rick and Jeet for volunteering to captain tandems at the Active Together Sport Expo today. This was a demo and try-it for over 15 adaptive sports for persons with disabilities to try. TandemEyes provided the opportunity for individuals with vision loss to try tandem cycling. ParaSport Ontario was there with a hand cycle as well. The rain held off long enough that we could cycle outside in the parking lot of Kenner Collegiate. We appreciated your time Rick and Jeet, especially giving up a Saturday to support this event!
You will notice two "new to us" tandems in the storage room. They have arrived just in time! One is a gently used KHS Sport that was purchased with the support of Lumby Bikes. Thanks Charlie! The other is a gently used Santana tandem. A big thank you to Rick who shared his expertise with us during the purchasing process and set up both tandems so they are ready to ride. Also, I want to thank Mark who came down significantly in the price he was asking for the Santana tandem so we could manage to add it to our fleet.
We are very grateful to have these two additions to our fleet of tandems! My apologies for a slow start yesterday. We had a couple of problems "coming out of the gate". The medium KHS has a rear brake issue, which we noticed when we got it to street level. It will go in for an adjustment today, but it may not be available for Wednesday's ride. We then had to decide on the bike to use in place of the KHS. That left the Burley, which then needed to be adjusted for the stoker at the Bean. It was questionable whether or not the saddle could be raised enough for the stoker, hence another delay. All in all it was a good ride down the lilac trail. The smell of the lilacs is worth the trip this time of year.
I really appreciated everyone's patience and understanding during last night's ride. When one bike is in for repairs, it leaves us really tight to find a replacement tandem in our fleet. Then, when two bikes are down...well, it's a real scramble. I appreciate that you all make a big effort to get to the storage room/Bean by 5:45 for a 6:00 start. In respect of everyone's efforts, we are really working on getting closer to that start time. Please don't hesitate to call me with any concerns or suggestions for improvements. This is your cycling club, so we value your opinions/suggestions. Thanks folks! Our ride is still going ahead. See you at the Bean.
The teams for tonight appear below the post for Monday's ride. Please scroll down. Thanks!
Monday night rides seem to have their fair share of bad weather. Once again, we are cancelling the ride for tonight. Due to the impending threat of bad weather and the many cancelations for tonight, we will not be riding. Hope to see everyone out on Wednesday.
Mark will be leading a ride for this holiday Monday. Please let me know asap if you are unavailable for the ride.
